Lori

Lori Massey is an accomplished artist who spent her childhood in Alaska and trained with premier Alaskan artists like Barbara LeVallee and Alice Slattery. Lori's father, Walter Massey, also a recognized artist in Alaska whose paintings can still be seen in schools, libraries and other public places around Sitka. Lori has also filled several commissions in Sitka and Juneau including the Alaska Raptor Center . She has also donated art for auction in Fredericksburg, VA to assist local schools.
Lori has taught art at a private schooling institution for grades one through eight, works as a substitue art teacher and continues private instruction.
From the time she could pick up a crayon, Lori was drawing horses. A confirmed horse fanatic, Lori's biggest dream was to own her own horse. Hooved animals, however, have a difficult time in the temperate rain forest of South East Alaska, and she had to wait until she moved to the lower 48 before she was lucky enough to finally own her own beautiful mare, Annie. During the wait, Lori drew, painted and dreamed horses.
Truly passionate about horses, Lori captures their sweet essence, intelligent expression, their fire and strength with her brush.
People love their horses, whether they prefer Western or English, driving, hacking, trail riding or showing, the passion is the same. The connection with our strong and patient friends soothes the soul, and brings the world into a better focus. It's been often said that the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a person.
Horse Portraits are a way to immortalize this passion and friendship in a time honored manner that is more formal and more profound than a photo. Lori's hope is to allow people to own a hand painted portrait of their beloved mount that is both beautiful and affordable.
Hand painted artwork has romance and beauty as well as a formality that adds an air of elegance to any setting. The artist adds his or her personality or perspective to the piece, depending on his or her style that appeals to the human eye. Artists can soften the work, or make their subject stand out and seem more important.
Lori's love of horses renders them in a special light that shines through in each painting.
